ePetitions data standards - get involved!

Are you interested in ePetitions? Perhaps you run electronic petitioning tools for a local council, or are involved in analysing the results? Do you build tools for governments to use to help citizens petition it more effectively? Or maybe you’re a keen hacker who wants to see these tools built in transparent and effective ways?

My name is Andy Gibson and I’m working with Futuregov and Particitech to create a simple set of data standards for all the UK’s local government ePetitions. From next year, it’s probable that all local councils will be required to provide electronic petitioning tools to their citizens, and we want to make sure they all do it the right way, and in a form that means they can all talk to each other.

I’ll be putting out the draft standards via this channel in November for your feedback and amendments, but in the meantime, if you’re interested in being involved in an initial working party to create the draft and shape the focus of this piece of work, please drop me a line at andy[at]sociability.org.uk.

    We’re adapting a WordPress plug-in that will run ePetitions to the spec required by Norfolk County Council based on previous experience with Bristol City Council. So please do count me in too.
